Year 6’s Last Half-Term at Windsor…

Welcome back to what will be your child’s last few weeks at Windsor!


We hope to make it an extra special time, so the children have a busy half-term ahead of them;

taking part in extra swimming sessions, art and dance workshops from ‘Brouhaha’, and Sports’ Day, amongst other occasions!


One of these occasions will be the annual Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly; something that the children will be preparing for, and a chance for them to reflect on their time at Windsor, now that they are nearing ever so closer to their transition to secondary school.


Here is what the rest of this half-term has in store for the children in Year 6…



Looking forward to each of the core subject areas; here is what they have in store, for this half-term:

In English, we will be…

Writing poetry, diary extracts and letters:

  • Writing a poem based upon our Class Poet, Valerie Bloom’s poetry collection; ‘Hot Like Fire and Other Poems’
  • Writing diary extracts and recounts, based upon our Class Author, Jeannie Baker’s book, ‘Mirror’


What can be done at home?

  • It is essential that you hear your child read every night and write in their reading record so when they are ready, they can choose a new book to take home.
  • Remind your child to bring their book bags into school everyday.






The children will continue to solve challenges, investigations and problems in all areas of their Maths work. This half-term, we will continue to develop and consolidate our skills and reasoning within all areas; Place Value, Number, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Ratio and Proportion and Algebra. We will be progressing onto Statistics in our learning, for this half-term.


What can be done at home?

  • Practise reading, writing, comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000.
  • Identify the place value of whole numbers and decimals.
  • Rounding numbers with up to 6 digits to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000
  • Practice recalling multiplication facts for the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 times tables.
  • Read, write and convert time between analogue and digital, 12 and 24-hour clocks



  • PE will be on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
  • It is important your child has the correct P.E. kit; (red t-shirt, blue shorts, pumps) and brings it into school ready for their P.E. lesson.
  • To make sure everyone has the correct kit belonging to them, please ensure your child’s name is written clearly on the inside tag of their P.E. t-shirt, shorts and bag.
  • Some children will be receiving extra swimming sessions every afternoon for two weeks; from Monday 5th June, 2017 to Friday 16th June, 2017. If your child has been chosen to participate in these sessions, they would have already received a letter. Your child will need the correct kit for swimming; swimming costume or shorts, towel, swimming cap (girls), underwear, socks and tights.
  • The children’s homework will continue to consist through Learning Logs. The children will have a menu of tasks to choose from every week. A focus question based on our learning in class will be given to the children, and from the menu, they will choose how they will present their learning in their own Learning Log book!
  • Learning Logs will be given out every Friday and are expected to be back in school the following Friday.
  • In addition to Learning Logs, children will have Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling tasks and Maths revision activities to take home to complete, in preparation for End of Year Tests.
